Received confirmation today that my story, My Shadow, will be published in the August 2017 edition of Chicken Soup for the Soul. The book is called Chicken Soup for the Soul: The Cat Really Did That? 101 Stories of Miracles, Mischief and Magical Moments. What's great about this particular edition is "royalties from the book go to American Humane, one of the organizations that Chicken Soup for the Soul supports in its broad program to help care for shelter animals and promote adoption."
This was a true story that is being published about my favorite cat. It was actually a little hard to write, because I miss him so much. I believe that's what must have caught the editor's attention as the story events seem rather unremarkable. So take a note aspiring writers: write about something you love or feel passionate about and it will shine through, increasing your chances for publication.
I'm always marveling at how other writers are readers too. I enjoy checking in with my favorite authors and see what floats their boat. So I thought I'd share what I'm reading.
Of course, one thing you should know about me is I rarely ever have ONE book going at a time. I'm reading things for my personal study (just plain learn), I read things for research on projects, I re-read old favorites when I'm stressed out, and I read a good romance when I want to decompress. Sometimes I may plow through three or four of the latter in a weekend and then be off them for a bit while I read other stuff.
So what am I reading today...?
Battlefield of the Mind by Joyce Meyer - re-re-re-reading this one. Read a sample
The Folded Leaf by William Maxwell - second time through this one; using it for a capstone project I'm working on right now. Read a sample
Romancing Redemption by Bonnie R. Paulson Read a Sample
And my web pick for today is from author Joseph Finder. Tips on getting off your duff and actually writing.
I'm a writer... so that means I write a bunch. Blogs are just the pieces that never make it into the final cut.
